ACERO – Australia is established as the Australian arm of the international aid agency of the Assyrian Church of the East and is Chaired by His Beatitude Mar Meelis Zaia AM, Metropolitan of Australia, New Zealand and Lebanon of the Assyrian Church of the East.

ACERO – Australia directs funds raised towards its overarching objective of providing benevolent aid and relief to local and international individuals, groups and communities. International aid and relief is primarily focused across the Middle East including Iraq, Syria and Lebanon; with other locations contingent upon circumstances and need.
The Charity’s inception responds to the ongoing suffering and persecution of Christian minority groups across the Middle East (particularly the Assyrian Chaldean Syriac people). The mentioned group is a distinctive religious and ethnic group indigenous to Northern Iraq, Western Iran, South-eastern Turkey and North-eastern Syria. The Assyrian people (along with other Christian minorities) are presently facing relentless persecution in their ancestral homelands. Church bombings, forced conversions, rapes and kidnappings at the hands of extremists and fundamentalists have resulted in a mass exodus of the Middle East’s Christian population from their homes with nothing but the clothes on their backs, with a significant spike in the number of displaced individuals being seen. Having no present “safe haven”, most have fled to neighbouring Lebanon and are living in severe poverty without any basic civil or human rights, made all the more detrimental due to the significantly high cost of living across safer regions. Those who remain face abject poverty and persecution and require ongoing relief.

ACERO – Australia also provides relief to the general population, including non-Christians during periods of crisis.
